Ben Tullis


Ben Tullis started with Empire in May 2001. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Ben has worked his way through the ranks in the field learning all aspects of running a job site efficiently. He transitioned into the lead Superintendent and then Project Manager working on jobs ranging from $5 Million to $19 Million. Over Ben's 20+ years in the construction industry he has been involved with Multifamily renovation, Multifamily new construction, Assisted Living new construction and tenant finish projects. As a result of Ben's successful projects, leadership capabilities, morals and his vision for the future of Empire Construction, he was awarded the position of company President. Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids. He is an avid runner throughout the year and enjoys training his German Shepherd dog. Ben also enjoys golfing, fishing and boating.

Dan Johnson

Director of Sales/Marketing

Dan Johnson joined the Empire team in April of 2001, bringing with him over 20 years of sales and marketing experience gained from working for a variety of companies, including several of his own. During his first three years at Empire, Dan worked as a construction manager where he built the foundation of his extensive knowledge of the multifamily industry. With this knowledge, he is now responsible for Empire’s strategic planning and implementation of sales and marketing in today’s ever-changing market.

Drew Sutherland

Project Manager/VP

Drew Sutherland was hired by Empire Construction in January 2001 as a young man with discipline, drive and a willingness to learn that he had received during his training as a Marine. During his 18 years of construction experience Drew has completed multi family renovations in both occupied and gut rehabs. He has also built multi-family new construction, Assisted Living and Memory Care new construction projects. He has been the lead Project Manager on jobs up to $15 million. Originally from Washington state, Drew enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife and kids. Empire is honored to employ a Marine. Drew was deployed to the Middle East twice for non war time missions.

Ben Mills

Senior Project Manager

Ben joined the Empire team in 2004 after receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. During his years at Empire Ben has had an opportunity to spend time learning the roles of multiple different positions. Ben has been in the field as a Superintendent and in the corporate office directing Project Development for estimating and procuring subcontractors/ materials. Since 2016 Ben has been working as a Project Manager overseeing high-rise renovation projects in the $2MM - $9MM range. Ben and his wife have three children and lead a married couples small group together at First Baptist Church in Sevierville, TN. He enjoys running and playing golf in his spare time.

Leon Mullinax

Senior Project Manager

Leon Mullinax has been a valued team member of Empire Construction since May 2016. He brought with him many construction lessons that he has learned over his 35 years of experience. Leon has completed the renovation and new construction of thousands of apartment units, surgical centers and medical offices with projects ranging from $2MM - $45MM. Leon claims the Georgia Bulldogs as his favorite team to root for and enjoys teaching adult Sunday School. Empire is proud to employ an Army veteran who served our country in Vietnam. In addition, Leon is the recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty.

Troy Hoskins

Project Manager

Troy Hoskins has been an asset to Empire Construction since his hiring in March 2016. He brought with him 30 years of construction experience with the completion of multi family renovations, multi family site development/new construction and commercial development projects. Troy has been the lead on projects ranging from $2MM - $25MM. Troy is all about his Oklahoma football and he calls the state home. He enjoys time on the golf course and traveling to new destinations both domestic and abroad.

Robert Arden

Project Manager

Robert joins the team of Empire Construction bringing a vast portfolio of successful projects completed during his 35+ years in the Multifamily industry. The communities have been located from Texas to the southeast region of the country. He brings invaluable experience of all phases and levels of construction including a large list of subcontractors/vendors. Robert has teamed with top developers, major Architect/engineering firms, REIT’s, private owners, property management companies, major financial institutions, HUD and public private financing groups. His projects have ranged in value from $1MM to $44MM. Robert and his wife Jackie reside in Marietta, GA with their Basset Hounds (Bluebell and Tucker). His interests include helping others, golf, fishing, cooking and pulling for his favorite sports teams.

Alex Davis

Project Manager

Alex joined the Empire family in 2016 as a construction manager working on our Ohio projects. During his time at Empire, Alex has held multiple positions working on projects ranging from $4.5MM to $7.5MM. Gaining experience by working under the successful leadership of Leon Mullinax and Ben Mills, Alex has been promoted to serve as Project Manager in 2018. Alex’s hobbies include being out on the lakes and rivers of Ohio and Tennessee, archery, and kayaking. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his family and their two German Shepherd dogs at their home in Ohio.

Randy Braund

Project Manager

Randy Braund came to Empire Construction in June of 2003 with 20 years of previous construction experience. He was a partner in a custom cabinet company that designed offices for eye doctors. The company built, delivered and installed all of their casework and associated optical displays in the doctor’s offices. He completed jobs from Anchorage, AL to Puerto Rico. Randy brought with him a work ethic and loyalty that was modeled by his father along with the discipline, attitude and value of teamwork that he learned while serving in the Army Reserves and as a State Trooper in Ohio. He has worked as a lead on-site project/construction manager & superintendent on rehab projects ranging from $2MM to $12MM. There has also been a mix of new construction including multi-family and assisted living projects from $1MM to $8MM. He lives in Knoxville with his wife where he spends most of his leisure time “putzing” around the “farm”. They have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.

Todd Weldon

Sr. Project Manager

Todd Weldon started working with Empire Corporation of TN in January of 2019. He grew up in Northern Wisconsin, working for his family-owned construction business during his summer breaks from a young age. Todd has followed in his family footsteps and has now been in the construction industry full-time for over 35 years. During his career, Mr. Weldon has completed multi-family, student housing, podium mixed use retail and apartments, senior living, parking decks, and hotels. These projects have been completed throughout the Southeast region and ranged from $5MM - $70MM. Todd and his wife call Canton, GA home. They enjoy being foster parents for dogs with the organization Angels Among Us, as they help find new forever homes for needy puppies. Todd also enjoys his time outdoors where he hunts and fishes.

Rick Anderson

Project Manager

Rick Anderson joins the Empire family bringing with him over 30 years of experience in various types of construction including multi-family renovations and new construction. He has worked in the majority of the Eastern States and is knowledgable of the statutory requirements. Rick has been the lead Project Manager on jobs ranging from $1MM - $10MM. He lives with his wife in the Raleigh, N.C. area. In his spare time, Rick enjoys golfing and fishing with his grown children, who now live in Philadelphia and Richmond.
